What You Will Achieve:
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Portfolio Management, the Director of Program Management is accountable for operational excellence of very large programs which include project teams, sub-teams, and third-party supplier coordination. This accountability includes the stakeholder management, communication planning, and project controls. The Director of Program Management is also responsible for long-term program goals and project health. As the Director of Program Management you will direct cross functional matrixed teams through successful implementation of project deliverables. You will be expected to identify cross-functional bottlenecks, issues, risks and possible solutions and works with cross-functional managers to execute solutions. This position will require the candidate to simultaneously lead and manage multiple sub-projects, which may include both internal and external resources with projects of various levels of complexity. This leader will be responsible for ensuring all projects and non-routine improvement activities are proactively planned & monitored while providing periodic updates and reported on to executive leadership.
How You Will Achieve It:
- Partners with all functional areas to build and maintain integrated project timelines, track progress, resolve conflicts, and communicate current project status. Responsible for keeping the project on-schedule, on budget and within the chartered scope.
- Plans, coordinates, and facilitates regular Project Team meetings and ad hoc meetings. Prepares agendas with input from key functional area representatives. Prepares comprehensive meeting minutes and action items. Follows-up with team members on any outstanding action items.
- Delegates activities, action items, scenario planning activities to the appropriate sub-teams.
- Proactively manages potential issues and facilitates the resolution of problems; and/or escalates to company leadership for resolution.
- Collaborates with appropriate teams and project levels to ideate and scenario plan project risks to gain endorsement on baseline approach.
- Builds key performance indicators and works with supporting project management staff to track health of project.
- Collaborates with finance team(s) to support budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Accountable for stakeholder management and education of key aspects using storyboarding and presentation techniques.
- Prioritize activities within the program including partnering with functional managers to generate resource conflict solutions.
- Coordinate and provide high-level updates to senior management on key programs and projects to communicate status and risks.
- Ensure that individual projects as well as the entire projects portfolio are aligned with the Executive Leadership Team, and the relevant stakeholders, and that the portfolio remains maintained for relevance as it progresses through time and through execution.
- Lead planning activities to develop robust project plans, establishing milestones and monitor adherence to plans and schedules.
- Facilitate effective program and governance meetings, handle change and conflict, focus team on key priorities
- Execute project risk management activities including risk identification, ranking and contingency planning
- Identify and track critical path/activities, risks, contingencies and alternatives and offer suggestions to get projects back on track when necessary.
- Mentor and support project managers, to lead department initiatives, and facilitate execution across functions, and with global teams.
- Developmental coaching to project managers and cross-functional members.
- Some travel is required
Requirements
What You Need to Achieve It:
- 10 years of project management experience in Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, CRO or a related healthcare field is preferred.
- • 5 years of experience working with business stakeholders within a cross-functional matrix environment
- • Bachelor’s degree is required, in a scientific or engineering discipline is preferred.
- • Master’s degree is strongly preferred, specifically MBA.
- • PMP and/or Six Sigma certification is strongly preferred.
- • Strong influencing, Leadership courage, Drive for results, Mentoring/Coaching and Command skills.
- • Capital management experience is preferred.
- • Direct employee management experience is preferred.
- • Proven ability to work in an ambiguous environment and collaborate across multiple areas to achieve a common business objective.
- • Demonstrate decisiveness in resolving business problems, making decisions, and identifying priorities.
- • Demonstrates exceptional organizational, written, and oral communications, time management and proficient project management skills.
- • Proven ability to demonstrate a drive for results and accountability of business needs.
- • Experience managing and leading in an FDA regulated environment with cross-functional development teams.
